Oceanfreight Operation Manager

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Operations Manager to manage ocean freight operations, pricing, and procurement for the GFS team. This role will be responsible for securing competitive freight rates and reliable services, managing relationships with carriers and suppliers, and ensuring the smooth delivery of ocean freight shipments.

The position will work closely with Sales, Customer Service, and other internal teams to support existing and new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Ocean Freight Operations

Manage daily ocean freight operations, including both import and export shipments.

Oversee the end-to-end shipment process, from booking and documentation to customs coordination and final delivery.

Ensure shipments are handled accurately, on time, and in accordance with customer requirements and applicable regulations.

Monitor shipment progress and resolve operational issues, including delays, space shortages, documentation discrepancies, and customer complaints.

Develop and improve standard operating procedures to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

Lead, guide, and support the ocean freight operations team.

Pricing and Procurement

Negotiate ocean freight rates, space allocation, and service terms with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other service providers.

Develop and maintain relationships with carriers, overseas agents, and suppliers to secure competitive rates and reliable services.

Prepare and review quotations in response to requests from the Sales and Customer Service teams.

Monitor market rates, carrier schedules, capacity, and industry trends to support pricing decisions.

Manage rate agreements, contracts, and supplier performance.

Identify opportunities to optimize procurement costs while maintaining service quality.

Monitor shipment costs and gross profit to ensure pricing is aligned with business objectives.

Coordination and Reporting

Work closely with Sales and Customer Service teams to provide pricing and operational support for customer accounts.

Coordinate with overseas offices, agents, and relevant internal teams to ensure smooth shipment execution.

Prepare regular reports on shipment volume, revenue, costs, gross profit, supplier performance, and operational issues.

Support management in developing the ocean freight service and improving team performance.

Proven experience in ocean freight operations, pricing, and procurement.

Experience in negotiating rates and service agreements with shipping lines and other logistics providers.

Strong understanding of ocean import and export processes, shipping documentation, Incoterms, and relevant regulations.

Experience managing or supervising a team is preferred.

Good understanding of freight cost structures, market rates, and gross profit management.

Strong negotiation, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Ability to work effectively with internal teams, carriers, overseas agents, and suppliers.

Good command of English for business communication.
