Math Teacher

Job Summary

Teach Foundation Year (FY)/ Foundation Semester (FS) students fundamental knowledge of Mathematics, Applied Math for Computer Science, Calculus and Business IT (R & Excel, Python & Matlab), and prepare them to continue to study those courses in English language.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach fundamental knowledge and skills in Mathematics, Applied Math for Computer Science, Calculus, and Business IT (R & Excel, Python & Matlab) to FY/ FS students and prepare them with the capability to study mathematics at university level in English language.

• Teach all courses in English language with a total of 512 academic hours (AHs) per academic year.

• Teach courses in an interactive way with a focus on problem-based learning, if possible.

• Prepare quiz/exam questions and give quizzes/ exams to students, including invigilating quizzes/ exams.

• Develop curricula and syllabi for new courses and send them to the responsible officer or assistant of the LCFY for archiving. Simultaneously, send course syllabi to students before starting courses.

• Develop teaching materials and learning resources, grading papers, and managing students' grades and exam papers.

• Support students by applying flexible office hours in a certain workday.

• Coordinate mathematic courses in the foundation year/ foundation semester.

• Train or mentor new math instructors.

• Share learning resources, teaching experiences, and new knowledge in the field with colleagues.

• Invigilate annual entrance exams organized by VGU.

• Participate in periodic meetings with instructors in the Science Unit to which he/she belongs in order to discuss and improve math and science courses.

• Contribute to academic and professional affairs of the specialized unit.

RequirementsQualification: At least a Master's degree in mathematics, but a doctorate is preferable. Candidates with a degree conferred by an international university will be favoured.Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of Math in general and Probability, Statistics, Algebra, Calculus, Pre-calculus... in particular.Skills: Excellent proven English speaking and writing abilities and extensive experiences of teaching mathematics in English language.Experience: At least two years of teaching experiences at a higher education institution.Behaviours required:• Highly responsible• Open, willing to collaborate with and support other faculty and staff members at VGU• Innovative and dynamic• Capable of working under pressureOther requirements:• Candidates with experience in math and/or science subject curriculum and syllabus development will be favoured.• For full-time positions, prospective instructors are required to teach up to 20 periods/week and to be present on the VGU's main campus in Thoi Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City up to five days/week.• Other tasks assigned by the LCFY Board of Directors when needed.What we offer• Competitive salary• 13th month salary• Bonuses on public holidays: 7 million VND/ year• Social insurance contributions calculated on full salary, effective from the probation period• 12 annual leave days per year• Healthcare package: 4 million VND/ per employee/ per year & Health check-up: 2 million VND/ per employee/ per year• Outing trip every year• 45-seat shuttle bus from HCMC• Tuition fee support to VGU's staff: VGU supports 25% of regular tuition fee to the VGU's staff, their spouse, their siblings and their children
