Environmental Field Technician

BASIC FUNCTION

This entry-level position requires a relevant educational background and professional training in environmental science, chemistry, or a related field, effective written and verbal communication.

Job Functions and responsibilities:

• Collect samples from designated site locations according to established protocols and guidelines.

• Conduct preliminary site assessments to identify sampling locations that ensure safe collection and ability to capture field notes.

• Process soil/sediment samples before sending them to the analysis laboratory, properly label, package, and store soil samples to prevent cross-contamination and maintain sample integrity.

• Maintain detailed records of sample collection, including location, date, time, pictures of samples and any relevant environmental conditions.

• Ensure that sampling equipment is clean (decontaminated), calibrated (if any), and in good working condition.

• Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected samples.

• Assist in data entry and reporting as required by the laboratory or manager.

• Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while collecting samples in potentially hazardous environments. Wear full body protective clothing and a mask when collecting and processing samples.

• Participate in the required blood monitoring program for dioxin at the beginning, during and at the end of employment.

• Responsible for compliance with site-wide procedures, particularly QA/QC, environmental compliance, and health and safety.

• Other tasks assigned by supervisor/manager to support A&E II project activities and program objective as well as other support to other A&E II disciplines.

• University degree in chemistry, environmental sciences or similar is preferred.• Previous experience in soil sampling or environmental sampling is advantageous.• Possess basic knowledge of environmental sampling techniques.• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions while wearing personal protective equipment.• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.• Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting sample collection and reporting findings. Ability to communicate in English is an advantage.• Adherence to ethical standards, particularly in handling sensitive environmental samples.
